Biden honored his late son by unveiling the new name for the Delaware National Guard headquarters: the Major Joseph R. "Beau" Biden III National Guard/ Reserve Center. Beau enlisted in the National Guard in 2003 and served in Iraq in 2008, according to The Associated Press.
The vice president remembered his son as a loyal, selfless person who "devoted his whole life to his family and to other people."
He also thanked his residents of Delaware, where he served as a U.S. senator for 36 years, for the outpouring of love and support he felt following Beau's death.
"It matters," he said. "It gives strength and sustenance in ways you can’t describe."
