John Hickenlooper Advises Other States To Wait On Pot Legalization

Colorado Gov. Hickenlooper (D) spoke about life after marijuana legalization in an interview with HuffPost Live at Davos.

"It's interesting, we've obviously learned a tremendous amount, the whole team has been going at light speed," Hickenlooper said.

Hickenlooper said he'd advise other states to wait before legalizing pot, so that others can see what the "unintended consequences" of legalization are in his state. The governor has made that claim before, saying in October 2014 it would be "reckless" for other states to legalize pot without first observing the challenges of legalization in Colorado.

Hickenlooper also spoke about his opposition to legalization, saying he would still vote against it, but he now has a more open mind about the regulation of pot sales.

"I didn't want it to be legalized," Hickenlooper said. "If I had a magic wand the day after the election and could reverse the election, I would have done it."

Hickenlooper did say the war on drugs is a "dismal failure," and said he's looking forward to seeing how marijuana legalization evolves in his state over the next two years.
