John McCain: Obama And I Are 'The Honeymooners' Or 'I Love Lucy' (VIDEO)

McCain Weighs In On Obama 'Romantic Comedy' Quip

Less than 48 hours after President Barack Obama joked that his relationship with Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) was a "romantic comedy," McCain was given a chance to weigh in.

In a Thursday interview with CNN's "The Lead," McCain was asked what romantic comedy best described their relationship.

"Given my age, how about Ralph Kramden, 'The Honeymooners,'" McCain chuckled. "Or maybe, 'I Love Lucy.' I don't know."

On Tuesday's edition of NBC's "The Tonight Show," host Jay Leno suggested to Obama that he and McCain had a "bromance" brewing.

“That’s how a classic romantic comedy goes," Obama said. "Initially you’re not getting along and then you keep bumping into each other."

In a late July interview with the Associated Press, McCain said that he and Obama "trust each other." The White House reciprocated, with Chief of Staff Denis McDonough praising McCain as a "refreshing" partner.

Shifting to a more serious note than romantic comedies or television shows, McCain reiterated Thursday how he and Obama handle their jobs.

The point is, I want to work with the president where the nation's interests are at stake, and we can work together."
