UPDATE: People.com reports that Mellencamp and Ryan are dating. They spent time together recently in Martha's Vineyard, and an insider confirms the relationship, saying that they began dating seven weeks ago.

PREVIOUSLY: Looks like John Mellencamp may have found a friend to lean on in tough times.
The legendary rocker, who last week announced his split from wife Elaine Irwin, has been spotted with actress Meg Ryan at a number of his recent concerts, according to Page Six. Ryan may be providing him with some good counsel, as she is no stranger to the topic herself.
A veteran of such timeless romantic comedies as 'When Harry Met Sally' and 'Sleepless in Seattle,' Ryan in 2001 split from husband Dennis Quad that had plenty of controversy. Ryan admitted to an affair with actor Russell Crowe, while alleging that Quaid had been unfaithful to her for years.
The report says that Mellencamp and Ryan were spotted walking arm-in-arm in New York in October, and that Ryan has dropped in backstage at a few of Mellencamp's shows on his most recent tour.
Perhaps business involved, too; Mellencamp said he was working on a musical, 'Ghost Brothers of Darkling County,' and that Ryan was one of the actors involved, along with Elvis Costello and Matthew McConaughey.
