Jon Bruning Unleashes New Attack Ad In Nebraska Senate Race

Nebraska Senate Candidate Slams Rivals

Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning released a negative ad Thursday accusing his Republican rivals for Senate of attacking him to distract from their own records.

The commercial targets State Treasurer Don Stenberg and State Sen. Deb Fischer, saying that Stenberg used "accounting gimmicks" to hide spending from taxpayers, and that Fischer supported tax increases and higher gas prices.

Watch the ad:

This is the first time Bruning has mentioned Fischer in an ad, the Omaha World-Heraldreports, and it comes on the heels of polls that show the GOP primary tightening. Fischer also picked up recent endorsements from Rep. Jeff Fortenberry (R-Neb.) and Sarah Palin.

Bruning, who remains the frontrunner in polls and was endorsed by Rick Santorum, told the World-Herald that he wasn't worried, but his rivals jumped on the advertisement,.

“Jon Bruning has outspent us over 10-to-1 on TV ads, and he knows his campaign is failing,” Aaron Trost, Fischer's campaign manager, told the World-Herald.

Nebraska holds its Republican primary on May 24.
