Jordan Reed Catch: Kentucky Hit Knocks Off Helmet But Florida TE Hangs On (VIDEO)

The strap holding on Jordan Reed's helmet turned out not to be as strong as his hands. The Florida tight end took a vicious hit to the head while trying to make a catch against Kentucky that sent his helmet flying off. He still held onto the ball.

Late in the second quarter, Gators quarterback Jeff Driskel dropped back and fired a pass down the middle to Reed at Kentucky's 35-yard line. Reed turned his body to make the catch but was immediately clocked by a pair Kentucky defenders, including safety Mikie Benton, who delivered a helmet-to-helmet hit.

Despite the illegal hit, Reed was able to hold on to the ball for a 25-yard gain. The officials called a personal foul on Benton for targeting Reed over the shoulders when he was defenseless, tacking on 15 more yards on the play. The catch set up Driskel's only touchdown pass of the day as Florida went on to rout Kentucky 38-0.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Reed injured his shoulder on the hit and did not return in the second half.

Despite only playing a half, some thought Reed's highlight was the catch of the day.
