Julian Assange Arrest Looming? Police Meeting In The Works, Says Lawyer

WikiLeaks Founder To Meet With Police After Sex Crimes Allegations, Lawyer Says

UPDATE: Julian Assange is expected to appear in court. The Guardian is now reporting that Assange is preparing for a lengthy legal battle:

Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, is expected to appear in a UK court today after his lawyers said he would meet police to discuss a European arrest warrant from Sweden relating to alleged sexual assaults.

As the legal net continued to close around the whistleblowers' website and the US attorney general, Eric Holder, said he had authorised "a number of things to be done" to combat the organisation, Assange appeared to be reconciling himself to a lengthy personal court battle to avoid extradition to Sweden.

Julian Assange is allegedly in talks to meet with police, Reuters reports.

Mark Stephens, a lawyer for Mr. Assange, stated that "Julian Assange has not been charged with anything." However, he also added, "We are in the process of making arrangements to meet with the police by consent in order to facilitate the taking of that question and answer that is needed," reports the Guardian.

Assange is wanted in Sweden for alleged sex crimes. British authorities have reported that they know where Assange is and how to contact him since an Interpol alert was issued for Assange last week, but British police did not say if they had plans to arrest the WikiLeaks founder.

According to NBC, there will not be a representative from Sweden at the meeting.
