Iowa Sex Offender Found Hiding Under Child's Bed: Police

A convicted child molester was found hiding under a child's bed last month, according to police in Bettendorf, Iowa.

Authorities said Julien Martell Skipper, 31, was captured under the bed at his neighbor's apartment April 19. The suspect had been living at the house, and was initially arrested on drug charges.

However, police added charges after they learned that Skipper, a registered sex offender, had failed to notify authorities of his change of address, and omitted that he had been living for about a month in the apartment, which was also home to two children, ages 5 and 10.

The Quad City Times reports that Skipper was arrested in 2007 after he allegedly "harbored a pregnant 12-year-old girl and jumped on her stomach."

The paper reported at the time:

Police say he jumped on the pregnant girl’s stomach Feb. 21 after he had taken her to a Cedar Rapids hospital for a pregnancy test within the previous week. The girl was reported as a runaway by her mother Feb. 16.

Skipper is accused of having the girl perform a sex act in July 2006, according to a court affidavit. His relationship to the girl was unclear Thursday.

He was convicted later that year for lascivious acts with a child, according to the Iowa Sex Offender Registry. However, that conviction lists the victim's age as 14.
