Karen Allen discusses her phenomenal new film, Year By The Sea, with Kyle McMahon on Kyle2U

Karen Allen sits with Kyle McMahon to discuss her incredible career, aging for women in Hollywood and her powerful new film, Year By The Sea.

Karen Allen is a bold woman. Having moved from Maryland to New York City at 17 years old to attend Fashion Institute of Technology, Allen is no stranger to living her life on her own terms. When she became interested in acting in her early 20’s, her talent and classic beauty landed her a role in National Lampoon’s Animal House. From there, she played Marion Ravenwood in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark and a string of hit films. The world was hers. While continuing to act in both film and theater, Allen purchased a 19th century barn in the Berkshire Mountains of Massachusetts to give herself some space from the hustle and bustle of New York City.

She raised her son, sold handmade jewelry and fine clothing at her popular boutique store and was heavily involved in local theater. In fact, she re-enrolled at Fashion Institute of Technology to pursue her love of machine knitting. She told the LA Times, “I just felt like I had to create a life for myself that was more independent.” Later, she received a call from Steven Spielberg about reprising her iconic role of Marion in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which once again thrust her back into the spotlight.

Real Women Make Waves

Today, Karen stars in the powerful film, Year By The Sea, based on the best selling book by Joan Anderson. Allen stars as Joan, an empty nester who moves by herself to Cape Cod to embark upon a quest to reclaim her life. Along the way, she meets people who help inspire her to continue on her journey. The film is incredibly powerful and is Allen’s finest work yet. Much like Allen herself, Year By The Sea is inspirational, bold and incredibly smart.
