Katie Holmes Sings 'On My Own' In Crushed Velvet Dress, French Twist Hairstyle: Fashion Flashback (VIDEO)

Katie Holmes Sings About Loneliness In Crushed Velvet Gown

While all eyes are on Katie Holmes these days for her impending divorce, we've been particularly intrigued by how she's upped her fashion game since her separation. Katie seems to have put style on the top of her priority list, appearing on "Project Runway" in a navy shirt dress, announcing a fashion week show for her line Holmes & Yang and running errands with daughter Suri looking perfectly put together.

Back in 1998, however, Katie was just making her way into Hollywood as Joey on "Dawson's Creek," and she definitely dressed accordingly. In the show's first season, the actress' character sang "On My Own" for a beauty pageant talent contest. Even though the theatre geeks in us completely dorked out over her song choice (and proceeded to sing it during every audition afterwards), we're still pretty obsessed with her '90s style in the clip. Enter, our latest fashion flashback.

Maroon lipstick? Check. French twist? Check. Crushed velvet halter gown? Check. This was basically our dream prom outfit for the better half of our childhood. We're surprised she didn't throw in a set of hair sticks. On a side note, we can't help but think how the song choice was just a little too prophetic. Well, at least Katie has quite the budding fashion career ahead of her.

And, yes, that almost-unrecognizable petite blonde with a fantastic cowlick in the video is Michelle Williams. We know...

See how Katie went from "Dawson's Creek" cast member to style star!
