Kayla Peterson Murdered During Cigarette Dispute With Todavia Cleckley, Marcus Velazquez: Cops

Teens Kill Mom Who Refused To Give Them Cigarettes

Cigarettes can kill in more ways than you think.

A 22-year-old Pennsylvania mom was shot in the gut after she'd allegedly told a trio of teens to "get a job" when she saw them bumming a smoke from her boyfriend.

Kayla Peterson writhed after the single bullet pierced her abdomen outside the Beaver Falls home she shares with her boyfriend William Bailey and their toddler Ellionna Bailey, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. She was airlifted to a hospital, but succumbed to her injuries in two hours.

Two of the three alleged gunmen escaped. Police nabbed 13-year-old Kyle Goosby, who's been charged as an adult with conspiracy to commit homicide. He's claimed to police that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, NBC Philadelphia said.

After badgering Bailey for cigarettes on his walk home Sunday afternoon, police say, 14-year-old Marcus Velazquez fired the fatal shot at Peterson who exited the house to see what was causing the commotion, CBS said.

Velazquez and his alleged 14-year-old accomplice Todavia Cleckley fled and are still on the run. Police consider them armed and dangerous.

Less than 12 hours after the shooting, photos appeared on Cleckley's Facebook account of a man branding a rifle and a pistol. Another new picture shows two young men pointing guns at the camera's lens.

Bailey says his 23-month old daughter keeps asking for her mother.

"Today's been real hard," Bailey told the Beaver County Times. "Kayla devoted her life to raising that baby."

If they're captured, authorities will prosecute them as adults. Cleckley has been charged with conspiracy to commit a homicide. In addition, Velazquez has been charged with criminal homicide, two felony counts of aggravated assault and two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment, according to the Post-Gazette.
