Kim Jong-il In China, Russia: North Korean Leader's Recent Visits

Kim Jong Il's Visit To China And Russia

The deceased leader of North Korea Kim Jong-il visited both China and Russia as recently as this past August. As the Associated Press notes, he appeared fairly vigorous on these trips, despite having suffered a stroke in 2008.

Kim Jong-il met with Russia President Dmitry Medvedev at a Siberian military base in late August. The two leaders reportedly discussed a possible moratorium on the production of nuclear missile weapons, as well as a proposal to ship natural gas to South Korea via North Korea.

After leaving Russia, Kim Jong-il traveled by train into Manchuria.
