Everybody has had a celebrity crush at one time or another, but not everybody was as publicly humiliated over theirs as Chris Pine was. He told the story on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" (Weeknights, 12 a.m. EST on ABC) of his obsession with the feature film version of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." As such, Kristy Swanson was his girl.
So, at 12 years old, Pine sent a letter into a magazine naively asking if they could give him her number. Of course, they couldn't, but what they did do was publish his letter with his name and everything in the magazine. This is utterly mortifying for a pre-teen a week before his first day in junior high school.
Jimmy Kimmel had Swanson's phone number, so he went ahead and called her. She was at that point completely unaware of the childhood crush Pine had had on her. So he was delighted to find out that she admitted to being a huge fan of him.
When Kimmel put him on the phone, Pine admitted to his crush on her. When she asked him if he was single, the wheels were clearly turning in his head. How many people get asked that question by someone they've held a torch for through that many years. No matter where life takes a person, those early childhood crushes always stay burning at least a little.
But when it came out that she was, as she called herself, "an old married woman" and rather referring to her niece, it didn't matter that Pine had admitted that he wasn't single either. The possible love connection had hit an impassable barrier, and so Kimmel simply hung up the phone.
