LA Car Chase: Car Explodes Into Flames In Boyle Heights On 10 Freeway (VIDEO)

WATCH: Car Chased By LAPD Explodes In Crash 10 Freeway

A DUI suspect who fled Los Angeles police late Wednesday night crashed on the 10 freeway east of Crenshaw Blvd. after losing control of his vehicle.

As shown on a live broadcast of the chase on KTLA 5, the car spun out, hit a sidewall and exploded into flames.

The station reported that the car -- identified as a red Ford Mustang -- was occupied by a single driver and had been pursued through downtown Los Angeles before the accident.

KTLA reporters, who followed the chase until its fiery end, were heard saying it was "unbelievable how fast he was going" and that "I can't ever recall seeing anything like this."

According to video footage from the overhead news helicopter and commentary from the hosts, the driver appeared to have survived the crash, thanks to officers who pulled him from the burning car before it became completely engulfed in flames.

Los Angeles has been a hotbed of police car chases lately, with one recent pursuit hitting especially close to home for one television viewer and another chase -- televised on KCAL 9 -- coming to a bizarre end when the suspect pulled over and started inhaling gas from more than a dozen brightly colored balloons.

This is a developing story. Check back for further updates.
