Lafayette School Closed After Suspicious "Kermit" Package Found

Peak to Peak Charter School in Lafayette, Colorado, was shut down Wednesday morning when officials discovered a suspicious package on the west side of the school.

Students and staff were evacuated to the east side of the campus while Lafayette police and Boulder County's bomb squad investigated a "very large" duffel bag that a school employee found in the parking lot, according to Lafayette police Cmdr. Mark Battersby.

Investigators discovered a large Kermit the Frog Doll inside the bag. Despite the (thankfully) humorous contents, many parents feel this is no laughing matter. One such parent told KDVR, "I hate having bored kids sit at home. Like, great, he can sit at home doing nothing all day."

A statement on the school's website states:

Peak to Peak always holds the safety of students, staff, parents and community members as the highest priority. As a result, the decision was made to cancel school for the day.
