Alexi Wasser
This LA native internet phenomenon (and HuffPost LA contributor!) whom LA Weekly calls "a real-life Carrie Bradshaw, only funnier, indier and nastier", made the cover of the Weekly's annual "People issue" this week. The creator of the wildly popular IMBOYCRAZY.COM is expanding her boy crazy empire with upcoming projects including a book, podcast, radio and television shows in development, and a regular segment on Canada's MuchMusic.
LA Lakers
Making the list for a second consecutive week, the Lakers managed to ignore the media whirlwind surrounding Phil Jackson's controversial comments about Arizona's immigration laws, the subsequent protests and ensuing battle between Los Angeles and Arizona. Instead, the team promptly jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the series and put to rest any doubts that lingered after their shaky playoff start against Oklahoma City.
Nina's Foods
Nina Garcia and her modest quesadilla table, fixtures of East LA's Breed St. Food Scene for two decades, went up against the big dogs in last weekends "Vendy" awards, described by the LA Times as "a cook-off that pitted some of the city's veteran vendors of tacos and bacon-wrapped hot dogs against a new guard of gourmet food trucks known for fashionable menus and for sharing their locations via Twitter." In a true David Vs. Goliath battle of street food vendors, the panel of judges made up of food critics and local restaurateurs handed Garcia the trophy, no small feat in this street food obsessed city.
