Triple Trouble: Convictions, Allegations For Top State Lawmakers In New York, Missouri And Georgia

It's been a rough month for leading state lawmakers.

Former Missouri House Speaker Rod Jetton is facing with a felony complaint for an alleged assault that may have occurred during a sex act. A conviction could carry a sentence of seven-years and/or $5000 fine.

According to the Kansas City Star
, the incident occurred November 15 in Sikeston, MO:

The affidavit attached to the probable cause statement alleges Jetton went to the home of the victim Nov. 15, where he and the victim drank wine and watched a football game. The victim claims Jetton hit her on the face and choked her, leaving bruises that the police department photographed.

The affidavit claims the assault occurred during the night and into the morning of Nov. 16. It says Jetton and the victim agreed on a "safe word" "to use as a stop word during intercourse."

These developments come on the heels of Georgia House Speaker Glenn Richardson resigning after an attempted suicide and alleged affair. The Associated Press reports:

The 49-year-old Richardson, once thought to be a serious contender for governor, had gone right back to shaking hands at chicken-and-grits fundraisers after trying to kill himself. But he had been silent since his ex-wife claimed this week that he slept with a lobbyist pushing a $300 million pipeline bill he was co-sponsoring.
