Lawrence O'Donnell: Mitt Romney Wanted To Get Booed At NAACP Conference To Appeal To White Racists (VIDEO)

Lawrence O'Donnell alleged on Wednesday that Mitt Romney deliberately tried to get booed at the NAACP convention in order to appeal to white racists.

The Republican candidate was loudly booed when he told audience members that he would eliminate Obamacare. One CNN reporter declared it "one of the most negative reactions Mitt Romney has had in the course of his presidential campaign."

After replaying a clip of Romney's speech, O'Donnell suggested that the candidate had been trying to employ the southern strategy to appeal to racist voters. "Tell me, Goldie, if I'm being too cynical to think that the Romney campaign actually went in that room today with the hope of getting booed at least three times because they want the video of the candidate being booed by the NAACP to play in certain racist precincts where that will actually help them," the MSNBC host said to contributor Goldie Taylor.

"I don't think you're being too cynical at all," Taylor responded.

She said that Romney showed up "not to speak to the NAACP, but to speak to his base." She said that he would have addressed issues like education and voter ID laws if he had really wanted to engage black voters, but that he seemed "paternalistic" instead.

Taylor went on to blast Romney for later saying, "if they want more stuff from government tell them to go vote for the other guy." She said that she initially thought he was merely "disconnected" from voters. "Now I know his problem is much bigger than that," she declared.
