"Letting Go: A Series"

The books on my bookshelf
represent
my passions and dreams
books read and unread
centering
clay
button history
diagnostic manuals.

Books I wish I read
books I read with yellow highlights
mine
though
I haven't looked for
years
decades.

Making peace
with saying good bye
as I did today
with my former clients
remembering each one
as I tossed the file
I kept
of secret conversations
between just the two of us
in remarkable
privilege
listening
to another human being
remaining always ready
to guard against what I don't know
about myself.

Make peace with throwing away
your learning journey
the one you took
on your own
and now
nobody cares
really they don't.

So cry if you have to

and pay attention
and then let it go.

By the end of one large file drawer
and the beginning of another
I am dizzy.
and can't do more.

I need to stop.

Now.

As I discover my own tolerance for saying good-bye.
