'Live From UCB Theatre' To Air Weekly On SiriusXM (VIDEO)

'Live From UCB Theatre' To Launch On SiriusXM

Fans of Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, which is widely recognized as a red-hot epicenter of comedic talent in New York and Los Angeles, will be pleased to learn that SiriusXM will launch a weekly hour-long program, "Live from UCB Theatre," beginning this Saturday.

"We were always told we had a face for radio," said Amy Poehler, co-founder of UCB, in a statement. "We just never knew it would be satellite."

Each week, "Live from UCB Theatre" will feature a different show recorded at UCB's New York location. The first show will be "Totally J/K," a New York favorite hosted by comedians Joe Mande and Noah Garfinkel. Stand-up acts booked to perform on Saturday's show are Kurt Braunohler and "Colbert Report" warm-up Julian McCullough.

UCB's foray into satellite radio seems to be a natural extension for the theatre, which was founded by the improv troupe of the same name composed of Poehler, Matt Besser, Ian Roberts and Matt Walsh. Although audiences outside of New York and Los Angeles are prevented from attending the theatre by geography, its status among comedy fans is known throughout the country. This is largely due to UCB's Internet presence, which includes podcasts recorded at the theatre, such as "Doug Loves Movies" at UCB in Los Angeles, and a website with original sketches.

Additionally, comedy luminaries such as Zach Galifianakis, Patton Oswalt and cast members of "Saturday Night Live" are regular drop-ins at the theatre, adding to its reputation as a cutting edge, (literally) underground performing space. Even Diddy stopped by to do a comedy show in January.

Planned shows on "Live from UCB Theatre" include "The Roast of Justin Bieber," "Waiting for Obama: A Night at the Hall of Presidents," and "Tournament of Nerds." All of these shows will feature UCB regulars doing stand-up, improv, sketch and other free-form comedy programming.

"Live from UCB Theatre" will air Saturday nights on SiriusXM's Raw Dog Comedy, channel 99, at 11 p.m. EST. The show will be rebroadcast Mondays at 7 p.m. EST.

Check out a clip where Joe Mande and Noah Garfinkel, hosts of "Totally J/K!", review "Avatar" with more uses of the phrase "hair rape" than any other review you're likely to see.
