'Magic Mike' On Broadway? Screenwriter Hints At Stage Version

'Magic Mike' May Hit Other Stage: Broadway

It looks like your local theater won't be the only place to experience "Magic Mike." According to USA Today, the film's screenwriter has designs on bringing the stripper drama to the stage.

"We are working on it as a Broadway show, which would be a different story," screenwriter and producer Reid Carolin said to USA Today at the film's premiere. Per Carolin, the Broadway version would be more lighthearted than "Magic Mike."

"I think it's the perfect thing for women to go see on Broadway, to be participants in the show," he said.

Should this bananas idea come to actual fruition, "Magic Mike" would be just the latest feature film adapted for the stage. "Sister Act," "Newsies," "Ghost" and the Tony-award winning musical "Once" are just some of the screen-to-stage shows currently on Broadway, with "Bring It On!" starting preview runs in July.

"Magic Mike," which is partially based on the young life of star Channing Tatum, arrives in theaters on Friday. The film closed out the Los Angeles Film Festival on Sunday night, receiving some rave reviews in the process.
