Man Commits Suicide By Jumping From Milford Plaza Hotel In Midtown

An unidentified man jumped to his death from the 27th floor of the Milford Plaza Hotel in Midtown landing on Eighth Avenue between 44th and 45th Streets.

The incident occurred early morning on Friday and cause police to close down a stretch of Eighth Avenue for about two hours.

Authorities believe the 23-year old man most likely jumped from a hotel window and that no vehicle was involved.

A hotel employee who spoke on terms of anonymity told The Daily News that paramedics arrived to save his life but ultimately failed.

The man was taken to St. Luke's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Earlier this year, a man threatened to jump from 30 Rockefeller Center but was ultimately thwarted by an emergency crew and surrendered to the NYPD.

Pychologist Madelyn Gould spoke to ABC on the minds of suicide jumpers in New York:

In New York City, jumping is certainly more common than in other places because we have high buildings. Usually the method is chosen because it's accessible.
