'Man Of Steel' Box Office Off To Strong Start: Superman Grosses $21 Million On Opening Night

SUPER Start For 'Man Of Steel'

"Man of Steel" is off to a super start at the box office. (Related: Try the veal.)

Zack Snyder's Superman reboot grossed a total of $21 million from Thursday night screenings, giving "Man of Steel" a strong foundation as it heads into the weekend. As TheWrap notes, Warner Bros. expects that the new Superman film could gross over $100 million during the three-day frame. That would put "Man of Steel" in some heady company: The highest three-day June opening weekend belongs to "Toy Story 3," which earned $110 million in June of 2010. "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" is also in Superman's laser-vision sights: Michael Bay's filmed opened with $108 million in June of 2009. (It should be noted that both "Transformers" and "Toy Story 3" were sequels; not that "Man of Steel" doesn't come with built-in audience expectations in its own right.)
