A man in southeastern China helped a struggling elderly woman across a busy intersection before the lights changed in the most gallant way possible.
Video posted online shows him reaching out to ask if she's OK as she slowly crosses the street in Longyan, Fujian province.
He then gently scoops her up into his arms and carries her across to the opposite sidewalk. He sets her down safely on the other side and he waits with her until she's regained her balance.
She still has to navigate a further road crossing, as the clip cuts out. But given his previous heroic actions, we can only assume he helped her across that street too.
Neither the man nor the woman in the footage, which someone in a passing car appears to have filmed, have been identified.
But the footage went viral after the People's Daily posted the clip to its Facebook page on Monday. Hundreds of commenters have praised what they describe as the young man's selfless act of kindness.
"God, bless that young man for helping the elderly lady across the street who could not make it no her own," one wrote. "Amen there are people who care and this young man has a heart," another added.
