WASHINGTON -- As news broke this morning that former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher died following a stroke, the world is remembering the "Iron Lady" who left her indelible stamp on Great Britain and the world.

Thatcher, Britain's first and only female prime minister, was a frequent visitor to Washington, D.C. She was especially close to President Ronald Reagan; in a 1989 National Review article, Reagan wrote that "this great lady has not only served her country well, she has served the free world well. She is truly a great statesman. So much so that I'll correct what I just said: She is a great stateswoman holding her own among all the statesmen of the world."

Thatcher later eulogized the former president: "We have lost a great president, a great American, and a great man, and I have lost a dear friend."

Here's a look at 10 trips Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher made to Washington, D.C. over the years.
