Jemima Kirke has had, by all accounts, an awesome year. She plays dreamy bohemian Jessa on Lena Dunham's hit show "Girls," has a painting career on the rise and is expecting her second child. So what does she have to cry about?
This gem of a photograph was taken before Kirke became famous for her role on the HBO series, when she was visiting Marina Abramovic's 2010 performance "The Artist Is Present" at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). In the performance piece, visitors sat facing a silent Abramovic for as long as they wished. Abramovic sat in the museum for a total of 716 hours and 30 minutes across from more than 1500 people -- an experience documented in a film by the same name.
Photographer Marco Anelli documented every interaction, capturing each participant and recording how long they sat in the chair. Anelli's work became a viral internet hit — if you haven't seen the Tumblr Marina Abramovic Made Me Cry, go there now. The Italian photographer's work, which capture moments of intensity and banality with equal passion, are compiled in the upcoming photo book "Portraits in the presence of Marina Abramovic," which will be released next month on Damiani press. The photographs give viewers the chance to occupy Abramovic's skin -- or floor length monochromatic dress -- even if for just a moment.
