These days, our knowledge of celebrities too often originates with paparazzi images and snarky quotes by anonymous "insiders." After a while, it's easy to forget that stars are real people. That's why HuffPost Celebrity decided to launch its all-new #nofilter quick-fire question-and-answer series. Because how well do you know someone until they've shared their guiltiest pleasures?

Mario Lopez has been gracing our TV screens since the 1980s, making his big debut as A.C. Slater on the popular television sitcom "Saved by the Bell." Nowadays, not only does he host Fox's singing competition series, "The X Factor," but he also keeps entertainment news junkies up to speed on all the latest gossip as a co-anchor on "Extra."

Lopez, who recently celebrated his 40th birthday, chatted with HuffPost Celebrity about his career, family and more as he took our #nofilter challenge.

When's the last time you cried?I think when I saw my daughter perform at her recital. I was crying of laughter because she was so good, and then I was proud, and then she was funny –- so all those things made me cry.

What's your guiltiest pleasure?Popcorn and M&M’s.

What's the silliest thing you've ever lied about? There’s too many. I don’t know!

If you could commit a crime and get away with it, what would it be? Murder. No, I’m kidding! [laughs] Maybe speeding, because I like to go a little fast sometimes.

What's one thing you do when you're alone that you wouldn't do in front of someone else?Pray.

What happens in your recurring dream?I don’t have one. I dream, I just don’t always remember them.

What’s the working title of your autobiography?Well, I happen to be working on a memoir right now and I’m trying to think of a title, so I should ask you if you could help me with one! You know, I turned 40 last month and I thought I’d kind of take a fun look back at what I’ve learned and the things I’m going through right now.

Is it okay to recline your seat on an airplane?Of course it is! I mean, not during takeoff, but you should relax. Yeah, why wouldn’t it not be okay? Everyone should recline!

When do you feel most anxious? When I’m hungry and I need to eat. I get “hangry” all the time.

What or who is overrated right now? Winter. [laughs] It’s so cold.

Is a good friend hard to come by? Not for me, I’m very blessed. Very blessed.

Describe one time you thought "This is harder than it looks." Windsurfing was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. It’s hard to really get going.

Can you tell us a joke? Not a clean one! I don’t know any I got to think of some later on ... I got to work on some!

What are you most afraid of?Failing.

When do you feel most at peace? At home with my family.

What's the most unusual thing you have in your purse/wallet?There’s nothing really unusual in there. Couple of credit cards, my license, money.

What technology do you hope will be invented in the next 10 years?A transporter.

What sense would you most be afraid to lose?My sight.

Why?Because I got to see what’s going on!

"Foods that we serve and prepare together are important to our family and right now we’re really into our fresh avocados from Mexico and incorporating them into our dishes, because they’re so versatile," Lopez tells HuffPost Celebrity. "The ones in Mexico are available all-year round, so I eat them with my eggs in the morning, on sandwiches, in soup, all the time. My kids love them too, and they're a healthy fat."
