Mark Niver DEAD: NHRA Driver Killed In Horrifying Crash

HORRIFYING VIDEO: Drag Racer Killed In Awful Car Wreck

Mark Niver, an NHRA drag racer, is dead after suffering a high-speed car crash near Seattle on Sunday. He was killed after the parachutes on his vehicle "ripped off," preventing him from stopping before the lethal collision, ESPN reports.

According to FanHouse, "King County Sheriff's Department halted race activities for more than an hour to investigate the crash but NHRA officials say the event was expected to finish in its entirety."

In an article on its web site, the NHRA expressed its "deepest sympathies to the entire Niver family." According to the posting, the 60-year-old Niver "waited until 2008 to earn the crowning achievement of his long career. He won the 2008 O'Reilly Summer Nationals in Topeka by defeating final-round opponent Chris Demke."

Just one month ago, another NHRA driver died while racing. In February, a fan was killed by a flying tire at an NHRA race.
