Martin Bashir's Chris Christie Comments: Fat Jokes? (VIDEO)

WATCH: Did MSNBC Anchor Make Fat Jokes About Chris Christie?

MSNBC's Martin Bashir is being accused of making fat jokes about New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

Bashir was commenting on Monday about the continued calls for Christie to enter the Republican presidential primary, and he said this:

MARTIN BASHIR: The real will-he-or-won't-he fervor is around the massively popular New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. While Christie has said he won't run, he hasn't exactly pushed away from the table and left the room. But if it's such a piece of cake to walk into the White House next year, why doesn't he do it? Or is it possible that President Obama won't be that easy to roll over?

Conservative media watchdog group Newsbusters had a bone to pick with Bashir over these comments. Though Bashir never did anything to suggest there was something underhanded in his comments, the site said there was "no doubting" that he was lampooning Christie's weight.

That was one day after the same site accused "Good Morning America" of making similar jabs in its report about Christie. The site reported that the morning show said Christie was being "heavily" pressured to run and that many Republicans feel that "the job may be big, but the declared candidates are too small," before playing unflattering footage of him walking across an airport tarmac.

Whether or not these remarks were intentional cracks about Christie is debatable, but it wouldn't be the first time that members of the media used the governor's weight as fodder. Last year, Ed Schultz condemned Christie as "a cold-hearted fat slob," while Chris Matthews joked that someone should inform Christie that a tunnel he vetoed was "a wide tunnel; it'll be very useful to certain people."
