Matt Lauria Talks 'Parenthood': Ryan And Amber's (Mae Whitman) Relationship 'Gets Ugly'

Matt Lauria: Amber & Ryan's Relationship On 'Parenthood' Will 'Get Ugly'

Cute it may be, but Amber (Mae Whitman) and Ryan's (Matt Lauria) relationship won't exactly be a walk in the park in upcoming episodes of "Parenthood" (Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EST on NBC).

Having just come back from fighting in Afghanistan, Lauria's character isn't in a great place when he meets Amber.

"This is a guy who desperately needs healing and he's with a girl who has never had to be responsible for someone else," Lauria told The Hollywood Reporter of Ryan. "I think they can go the distance and I hope they will but it gets pretty ugly."

"It’s one of the first times we’ve seen Amber really happy," the actress told Entertainment Weekly. "That’s the state of mind you’re in when something like real love comes along and you’re often caught off guard. She’s starting to understand what she has to offer to the world. And Ryan’s very different from the guys she’s been with. He could teach her a lot and she could teach him a lot.”

"Parenthood" airs on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
