McCain Does Fundraiser In The Hamptons

Last night at the lakeside home of Bill and Phyllis Mack, Senator John McCain told a high-profile crowd of Republicans that he was preparing for a close race in the fall and repeated his line that he liked being the underdog.

With the weather balmy and breezy after a hot day, the reception was held outdoors, in the large backyard of the Mack home, with the main part of the reception area sheltered under a white tent.

Mr. Mack is a prominent real estate developer, a founder and managing partner of Apollo Real Estate Advisors. He also sits on the regional advisory board of JP Morgan Chase and is a director of City and Suburban Financial Corporation.

Earlier in the afternoon, Mr. McCain arrived in the Hamptons by helicopter and went to lunch at "The Creek," the estate of the billionaire Ronald Perelman.
