New Jersey is on track to become the 14th state in the nation to allow the use of marijuana for "compassionate medical" use. Despite fierce opposition from some in law enforcement, the Health and Senior Services Committee of the General Assembly passed the bill by a 8 to 1 vote, with abstentions, sending it on to the full Assembly where it has the support of Speaker Joe Roberts, a Democrat. A similar bill passed the State Senate earlier this year by a 22-16 margin.
