Megan Boken, Wheaton Volleyball Star, Fatally Shot: No Arrests Made, Investigation Continues

No Arrests Yet Made In Fatal Shooting Of Volleyball Star

A 23-year-old former volleyball star who was a Wheaton, Ill. native was fatally shot in St. Louis, Mo. while in town to play in an alumni game at Saint Louis University Saturday.

Megan Boken was found with gunshot wounds to her neck and chest at Maryland and Taylor avenues around 2:20 p.m. Saturday, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Boken had been sitting inside her Volkswagen at the time of the shooting, according to the Chicago Tribune.

As of Monday morning, no arrests have been reported in Boken's slaying as a police investigation is ongoing.

Boken, who had returned to the Chicago area since her 2011 graduation from SLU, played on the school's volleyball team from 2007 to 2010, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. While attending St. Francis High School in Wheaton, she helped lead the school's team to two state titles in 2004 and 2006, according to Patch.

"Megan was a vibrant young woman and a wonderful representative of Saint Louis University and Billiken athletics," Chris May, SLU's director of athletics said in a statement.

Olympic gold medal-winning volleyball player Misty May Treanor is also among those mourning Boken's death, via a Facebook posting:

"My heart and prayers go out to one of my favorite families ever - the Bokens - I am sorry for your loss - Please know that I am thinking of you during this diffcult time."

According to the Post-Dispatch, witnesses saw a man either getting out of Boken's vehicle or opening the door to it and later saw the shooter firing two shots into the vehicle before fleeing the scene.
