Memorial Day Weekend Agenda For NYC (5.27-5.30)

Memorial Day Weekend: Tacos, Beer, Movies & Kayaking

It’s finally Memorial Day Weekend, and part of us thinks everyone should just lay around and eat potato salad all weekend. But just in case that gets old, here are some ways to relax and make it a killer Three-Day.

DanceAfrica Performances @ BAMWhy: Awesome Cuban dance + awesome African dance + bangin’ music = we’re so excited. Brooklyn Flea MarketWhy: Since you’re already in Fort Greene for DanceAfrica, why not also shop for vintage wing-tips, an ironic neckerchief, and then fill up on killer cart-food at this awesome flea market? If you haven't been yet, there is something wrong with you. Sorry. When: Saturday 10AM-5PMWhere: 176 Lafayette Ave. (btwn Clermont + Vanderbilt Ave.), Ft Greene BK

de Kooning Exhibit @ Pace GalleryWhy: Because museums are the perfect weekend activity--except for the hoards of people who also agree with that statement. Solution? Obscure-but-brilliant exhibits (i.e. the de Kooning exhibit) at secluded art galleries. When: Friday 9:30–6; Saturday 10-6 Where: 32 E 57th St.; 212-421-3292

Mister Sunday @ Gowanus Grove Why: BKLYN yard is reborn as Mister Sunday, with food and music and sunshine in time for the holiday. Mile End sausages, Red Hook Ball Field vendors huaraches, drinks from Botanica, james by Justine, Eamon and Four Tet.When: Sunday (duh) 3pm-9pmWhere: 400 Carroll Street between Bond & Nevins, Brooklyn

Beekman Beer Garden Beach ClubWhy: It’s not Memorial Day weekend unless you drink beer and shame your friends in a game of life-size chess or foosball. You can do all these things at the brand new, hammock-littered Beekman Beer Garden. When: Daily, 11:30 AM-3 AMWhere: 89 South St., north side of Pier 17. (Where the Water Taxi Beach used to be.)

Kayaking on the HudsonWhy: It’s free, rivers are naturally air-conditioned, and if you fall in (which you probably won’t) you might grow a couple extra digits to help you type on your Blackberry! Kayaks, changing rooms, and life vests provided. (More sites and details.)When: 9AM-6PMWhere: Pier 40, at the very western limit of Houston St., (on walkway, South side of the Pier, halfway out)
