Miami Indie Cinema Roundup: Arthouse Films Sept. 24 To 30 (VIDEOS)

It's A Mad World

This week, Miami's independent theaters take movie-goers on a trip through Asia.

Cosford Cinema is screening "Drunken Angel," the 1948 Japanese flick about a criminal with tuberculosis who strikes up an unlikely friendship with a doctor. Tower Theater also takes guests to Japan in "Harakiri: Death of a Samurai" about a warrior seeking the courtyard of a feudal lord so he can commit ritual suicide.

In Fort Lauderdale, Cinema Paradiso offers a passport to a mysterious Southeast Asian country in "They Call it Myanmar," tracing the nation's history from ancient times to the modern military regime keeping the former Burma under wraps.

To go truly international, head to the Coral Gables Art Cinema for "Samsara," where filmmakers traveled through 25 countries in five years to capture breathtaking images of different cultures, people and lands across the globe.
