Michelle Obama Cafe Milano Birthday Dinner: President Celebrates First Lady's 49th Birthday In Georgetown

WASHINGTON -- President Obama treated first lady Michelle Obama to a birthday dinner with friends at Cafe Milano in Georgetown on Thursday night.

As Patch reported:

A motorcade of black SUVs and large black trucks turned left from Wisconsin Avenue onto Prospect Street around 7 p.m. Thursday evening, blocking traffic on the both streets briefly.

Cafe Milano enjoys an outsized reputation among political elites and celebrities in the nation's capital. (In 2011, it was also speculated that the restaurant was a target in an alleged Iranian plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador.)

On its website, the restaurant is described as "the hub of diplomats, lawmakers, journalists, broadcasters, lobbyists, entertainers and all those who value first-class Italian cuisine in a setting that inspires."

But that power-spot notoriety sometimes outshines the quality of food. As soon as word spread about the president's choice of venue Thursday night, Cafe Milano was the butt of a few jokes, with The Washington Post's Mike DeBonis tweeting: "There goes their culinary cred."
