Are you feeling festive, Mitten State? Michigan's 176th birthday falls on Saturday, and any age over 100 deserves a big celebration.

Michigan became the 26th state in 1837, though not without first brawling with Ohio -- brush up on the Toledo War to read up on the beginnings of the states' long-running rivalry.

If you're looking for places to celebrate Michigan's statehood, the Pure Michigan blog teamed up with the Awesome Mitten to share five picks. In Detroit, they chose the Grand Trunk Pub, which has a history dating back to 1879 and was a ticket office for the Grand Trunk Railway in the 1900s.
