British pop singer Mika doesn't think inside the box when it comes to sexuality. In an interview with the London Evening Standard, he explained, "I consider myself label-less because I could fall in love with anybody --literally -- any type, any body. I'm not picky," and that his personal beliefs "are massively at odds with the Church, on everything from contraception to female rights to homosexuality."
One of his most popular songs, "Billy Brown," is about a man with "two kids, a dog, and the precautionary wife," who falls in love with another man. His views of sexuality have landed him on the covers of multiple LGBT magazines, and, coupled with his hyper-catchy songs and unbelievable vocal range, have amassed him a sizable queer following.
But some fans are a bit disappointed by the video for his new song, "Make You Happy," directed by Phillipe Paillé, off of his forthcoming "The Origin of Love" album. Vimeo user Chris Helios comments, "All I saw was a bunch of skinny, straight, white people. Did I blink and miss something?" and user Denis Adaire writes, "Did the filmakers think that boys and boys and girls and girls don't want to make each other happy too? I think Mika missed an opportunity to say something more beautiful and powerful." On the other hand, commenters point out that there is, in fact, a gay couple in the video, and user Lucrezia Alparone writes, "I like this idea of different types of people... who love each other in different ways to get the same goal: be happy!"
