Mike Pickering, Former High School Coach, Removed For Giving Students Porn Access (VIDEO)

Former assistent football coach Mike Pickering, 40, turned himself in after Staples High School officials became aware he had given students access information to a porn website, the Westport News reported.

Pickering was charged Thursday with three counts of risk of injury to a minor, each of which is a felony. The former Connecticut coach is being held at a $50,000 bond.

Westport Police Capt. Sam Arciola told the paper that "several students" accessed the pornographic website using the code.

"We don't take this lightly under the set of circumstances you can see how fast in our investigation," Arciola told WTNH. "And I think the Board of Education was very serious about it too."

"I'm just kind of shocked that he would be dumb enough to do that and risk his job," said former player Chris Larkins in a separate WTNH report.

"It's not the worst thing in the world, but it's not acceptable."

Staples Principal John Dodig would not comment more on the incident, but according to the Westport News, assured parents that the school took the matter seriously in a letter sent home.

"Please know that our preliminary investigation was thorough and quick, and that a decision was made within hours of our receiving the information," Dodig said. "It is now in the hands of the Westport Police Department."

Staples High School's paper, Inklings, reported that a student not on the football team reported the situation to school officials after overhearing students talking about it.

"I'm very proud of everyone, starting with the student who recognized it was serious. It would have been very easy to walk away," Dodig told the student paper.

Earlier this month, high school football coach Pat Lynch resigned after administering a survey titled the "Hurt Feelings Report" to his student athletes before a game, which included offensive sexist and anti-gay language.
