The Fashion Tip You Should Take From Mindy Kaling

Here at HuffPost Style, we're obsessed with Mindy Kaling. She's funny, she's smart, she's stylish -- what's not to love? And while she gets her fair share of props for her jokes and witty graduation speeches, we believe she doesn't get enough attention when it comes to her wardrobe.

The actress is first to hop on any trend (she rocked leather shorts and rompers way before they were cool) and she isn't afraid to take a style risk, even if it lands her on the worst-dressed list. But the most important lesson this comedienne has taught us is one about owning our personal style.

If you've ever looked through hundreds of photos of Kaling (like we just did), you'll notice that while the color and print of her outfits change on a daily basis, she almost religiously sticks to one silhouette: the just-above-the-knee shift dress. Not only does it look amazing on her, but the dress is versatile enough to be worn all year round, depending on whether she adds a pair of tights or opts for long sleeves. She'll pepper in different shoes, bags and makeup to each look, but the foundation remains unchanged.

So in celebration of Mindy Kaling's 36th birthday today (June 24), we are taking a look at all the times she rocked it in a shift dress.
