This week is a special week, and even though it's only week four, it might just be my favorite dance yet. This week is all about memorable moments. Each person has picked a moment in their lives that is the most memorable to them. I chose mine without even thinking.
Almost 20 years ago, I embarked on a journey that led me to the most magical night in Beijing, one that would become the most memorable moment of my life. Winning the gold medal and being recognized as the all-around Olympic Champion was something that I had dreamed about since I was a little girl.
That moment made me believe that with hard work and dedication dreams do come true. Tonight, with the help of my partner Derek Hough, we get to recreate my most magical moment - and we will be dancing to the music that I performed to back at the 2008 Olympics!
Not only does hearing "Dark Eyes" bring back such special memories, but it also makes me nervous. I haven't performed to that music since the night in Beijing. The first time Derek played the song for me, I immediately got butterflies in my stomach and goose bumps.
Because this week is so special, we really wanted the Argentine Tango to be perfect. It took days of trial and error, frustrations, and falls trying to figure out the perfect routine for this music, for the dance, and for this week.
Both my parents and grandparents will be in the audience tonight. And I have decided to dedicate this week to them! My family has no idea what we have in store so I am really excited to surprise them. I couldn't have achieved what I did without their constant love and support, and for that, I will be forever thankful.
I also couldn't be more thankful to Derek for putting so much thought, energy, and hours behind this routine to make it extra special for me. I hope you all enjoy our dance tonight, and getting a glimpse into the most memorable moment of my life.
