Netflix Can Usually Predict What You'd Like, Except When It Can't

It can be hard to know what to watch on Netflix with their overwhelming amount of TV shows and movies.

We've already given you a few tips and tricks for how to get the most of your subscription, but what happens when Netflix totally screws up? While doing some mild browsing, HuffPost noticed that many of the titles Netflix suggests for various TV shows don't make any sense.

Here are some hilarious, bizarre, totally nonsensical Netflix recommendation fails:

"True Detective"

Although "True Detective" is only available to save for DVD rental on Netflix, there are already similar recommendations for the popular HBO series, such as ... "Due Date"? Is Netflix trying to create the microgenre "Mismatched Pairs Arguing In Long Car Rides"?

"House of Cards"

While "House of Cards" and ESPN's documentary "Price of Gold" about the Tonya Harding-Nancy Kerrigan story both involve major scandals, they don't have much else in common. Also, Bloomberg TV's "Inside: Chipotle" doc is another completely odd pairing with the political series -- unless you ate a lot of burritos while binge-watching "House of Cards."

"Girls"

The BBC's historical sitcom "Blackadder" has little in common with HBO's "Girls," besides maybe its dark humor. "Xena" is a very pro badass female show, so uh, we guess that could maybe resemble Lena Dunham's mentality. But the weirdest recommendation here is the Sam Neil-narrated science doc "Hyperspace." Brooklyn hipsters contemplating wormholes? Hmm ...

"The Walking Dead"

If you're into zombies and apocalyptic survival stories, you're totally the target audience for an Eminem documentary ... right?

"Breaking Bad"

If we had to guess, the only thing "Breaking Bad" and "That '70s Show" have in common is drug use. But honestly Netflix, meth and casual hippy weed-smoking are on way different levels. Also, does this Bermuda Triangle doc suggestion have anything to do with that plane collision from "Breaking Bad"? A bit of a stretch, guys.

"Scandal"You don't have to be a "Scandal" fan to know that it has absolutely nothing to do with "Winnie Mandela" and the apartheid. Also women dating football players in "The Game" and a Beyonce doc don't exactly sound like Olivia Pope's field of expertise -- unless there's another president and Bey rumor.

"Portlandia"

"Samsara" is a gorgeous documentary full of breathtaking imagery and time-lapse photography, but what the heck does it have to do with Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein's show? We guess it could be a cool film for a Portland stoner to watch.

"Sex and the City"

We tried and tried to figure it out, but there is honestly no correlation between "SATC" and "Mystery Science Theater 3000," the comedy series about bad cult films. Maybe these two could fit under the microgenre Television Series with Well-Known Acronyms.

"House"

Clearly none of these suggestions, from "Family Guy" to "The Simpsons" to James Caan's football movie, have anything to do with Hugh Laurie's medical drama. But the biggest oddball is a Stuart Little cartoon. Laurie may voice one of the characters in it, but that doesn't mean these shows are at all similar.

"Lost"

The supernatural mystery series may be a show loved by a variety of people, but who's to say those audiences are also into Sasha Baron Cohen movies (notably not his best one) and "That '70s Show"? There's not a whole lot in common there.

"Entourage"

"Entourage" was a show about a group of dudes being dudes in Hollywood. Please help us figure out what that has to do with Lifetime's "Drop Dead Diva," where a model inhabits the body of a plus-size lawyer.

"Monk"

"Monk" and the 1996 thriller film "Bullet" may both revolve around crime, but the adventures of Tony Shalhoub's OCD detective seem light-years away from the story of Mickey Rourke's Jewish junkie and Tupac's (TUPAC!) drug dealer.
