Newt Gingrich To Advise Colorado State Treasurer Candidate Ali Hasan

Newt Gingrich has joined the campaign of Ali Hasan, a controversial GOP candidate for Colorado State Treasurer. In an email today, the Hasan campaign quoted Gingrich as saying "Ali's model of investing in Colorado winners, not in Washington losers, will create jobs and maintain strong yields."

Hasan's campaign manager, Drew Dougherty, told the Denver Business Journal that Gingrich was "actually going to be fairly involved" in the campaign.

Hasan, a Muslim whose father was an HMO manager, lives in the resort town Beaver Creek. He grew up in Colorado, but attended college in California, where he produced films and started a group called Muslims for Bush in 2004.

Hasan has two GOP primary opponents, Walker Stapleton and J.J. Ament. Democrat Cary Kennedy is seeking a second term as Treasurer.
