NYPD Boots Press From Police Headquarters

Officials at the Police Department told news organizations early Tuesday evening that they will have to leave the office space they have long occupied at One Police Plaza, the department's headquarters, by July 31 to make room for a new Joint Operations Center. The news organizations have been granted the use of the offices, on the second floor of the 15-story brick building, on Park Row in Lower Manhattan, since it opened in 1973.

The news outlets currently occupying offices at One Police Plaza include the Associated Press, The Daily News, The New York Post, The New York Times, The Staten Island Advance, El Diario, NY1 News and WINS. Paul J. Browne, the department's top spokesman, distributed letters signed by Raymond W. Kelly informing the organizations of the move.
