Oregon Couple Accused Of Leaving Meth As A Tip

With a majority of Americans now favoring the legalization of marijuana, some restaurant diners have started to treat drugs a bit too casually in public.

A display of generosity landed an Oregon couple in jail last week, The Daily Astorian newspaper in Astoria, Ore., reports. Seaside police arrested Ryan Bensen, 40, and Erica Manley, 37, after they allegedly left an envelope containing methamphetamine as a tip for their waitress at the Twisted Fish Steakhouse.

The waitress alerted the police, and the responding officer determined the substance was methamphetamine, according to the newspaper. Police identified the couple's motel and vehicle and found more suspected meth and evidence suggesting they had been manufacturing with intent to deliver, the paper wrote.

According to KPTV, both Manley and Bensen were taken to Clatsop County Jail.

Other stories of unusual restaurant tips have gone viral in recent months.

An Oregon bartender reported in October that she had won $17,500 on a Keno ticket given to her as a tip by one of her regular customers. Aurora Kephart, 25, gave the patron a percentage of the winnings and said she donated some to a muscular dystrophy charity.

Since October, a mystery tipper operating under the pseudonym "Tips For Jesus" has traveled the country, leaving generous tips at restaurants to show what Christian generosity should look like.
