Life started out rough for one little lamb born at Apricot Lane Farms. His mother died a few days after his birth and the rest of the flock rejected the newborn, leaving him orphaned and alone in the quest to care for himself. Even to the farm’s experienced owner, John Chester, the lamb seemed helpless.

“Of course, my impulse is to help them, but it’s always easier if we give them some time to work it out,” Chester says.

So, he let the lamb be. “It wasn’t easy to watch,” Chester admits.

The orphaned lamb kept trying to find food, a makeshift family, some comfort. But just before Chester was about to intervene, the orphaned lamb appeared to find something even more powerful: himself.

“I’ve noticed that once the separated amongst us have evolved, surprisingly, they reach beyond simply wanting to belong,” Chester says. “Once he stopped chasing the flock that was incapable of seeing him, an instinct emerged, like a whisper in his ear: Nourish yourself, and the world will be drawn to you.”
