Palin: Bad Interviews My Way Of Helping Tina Fey

The McCain/Palin decision to go all-negative, all the time is apparently something of a scorched earth tactic. But while it's one thing to misquote decidedly genteel former Secretaries of State or level kooky "terrorist-pals" charges against an opponent determined to out-unflappable you, I have to think that Sarah Palin calling out Tina Fey on the hustings is the sort of whirlwind she'd be better off leaving unreaped. And yet, via Politico, here's Palin, not leaving well enough alone:

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin joked Monday that her recent gaffes during media interviews were just providing "job security to SNL writers."

Pointing to her "less than successful interview I had recently with the mainstream media," Palin said, "I was just trying to keep Tina Fey in business."

Hmmm, was that a good idea? From the simple standard of accuracy, Fey's imitations of Palin aren't exactly what's keeping Tina Fey "in business." It's more like a time-consuming hobby on top of two or three other full-time jobs. But what can we say, for Fey and SNL -- who'll be dropping in on Thursday night audiences with special political content from now until the election -- business is booming. And in large part, this is because of Palin's own propensity for saying demonstrably stupid things on a daily basis.

For my part, I'm pretty much historically in the tank for Tina Fey. But in the interest of helping Palin out, my advice is this: You're already making it ridiculously easy. Don't make the mistake of making it personal.
