The Associated Press and NBC Chicago called the race for Rauner shortly before 10:30 p.m. local time, though a Quinn spokesman told reporters the governor would not immediately because "every single vote has to be counted."

Quinn has served as governor of Illinois since 2009. He was promoted to governor that year from his role as lieutenant governor when former Gov. Rod Blagojevich was impeached. Quinn was then elected to the governorship in 2010.
