Perry Hall High School: Two Months After Shooting, Community Celebrates Homecoming (VIDEO)

Perry Hall High School's homecoming this year featured marching bands, dancing and community-wide festivities. The celebration was a welcome change of pace from the start of the school year, when a 15-year-old opened fire in the cafeteria on the first day of classes. He fired two shots before wounding one student.

Many say the Perry Hall community has become closer since the shooting. "I know for sure that people have stopped picking on each other," junior Deli Okafor told CBS. "We've all become friends, no matter who you are, what you look like. We've all come together."

The town held a spirited homecoming parade, complete with the Perry Hall Gators mascot and a group of cheerleaders on a float. The festivities were cut short later that evening due to a tornado warning in the area.

"First day of school was a shocker," Art Frank, the parent of a Perry Hall student, told CBS. "But this is what Perry Hall is all about. We like to get together and have a good time."

The shooting contributed to the Baltimore County police chief's decision to allow metal detecting wands in all schools, which will be used by school resource officers under any suspicious circumstances. Thus far, Perry Hall parents are on board with the decision.

Last month, Huffington Post blogger Shireen Younus described her own experience attending Perry Hall on the day of the shooting, and urged government officials to take a more active stance on gun violence.
