'Person Of Interest': Getting Justice - Or Revenge - For Detective Carter's Death

The death of Detective Carter last week at the hands of HR's second-in-command, Simmons, rocked "Person of Interest" to its core. But if fans of the show were left reeling, the team itself was absolutely shattered. Carter wasn't the only one shot, but the life-threatening injuries he sustained weren't enough to convince Reese to abandon his mission of justice.

Reese is a very dangerous man -- even as his life is ebbing -- and he had little difficulty tracking down the head of HR, Alonzo Quinn. Luckily for Quinn, the gang showed up in time to stop Reese from killing him. Telling him that Carter worked hard to have him taken down legally, this wasn't the right approach.

Later, Fusco was faced with a similar situation. He tracked Simmons down at an airport, and took him down with his fists. Fusco, who was a dirty cop when the show began, showed how much he's grown as a man by not killing Simmons. And he credited Carter with everything. "She reminded me that I could be good again. I could be a good father, a good friend. a good cop. I'm not gonna let you undo all the good she did. Carter saved my life. She saved me from myself. Because she believed in me. And i'm not gonna throw all that away on a piece of crap like you." Instead, Fusco arrested Simmons.

Carter's reach went further than Finch's team of number-chasers. Crime boss Elias had his own respect for her, and so he paid Simmons a visit in the hospital. He proved he didn't have the moral hang-ups Fusco did, and so he watched as one of his men ended Simmon's life -- and possibly HR along with him.

The gang prepares to face a new threat when "Person of Interest" returns December 17 at 10 p.m. EST on CBS.
